Yippee! The circus boot camp was a success! 7 fit and nimble teaching artists met with 7 bags full of circus equipment donations for orphanages and school children in Northern India. Collaboratively, we have built a script for our show, think Wizard of Oz meets the Ramayana. As an ensemble we have written a manifesto, highlights include: 1. We are a family. 3. Listen 7. Love for kids and education.
Eagerly we test run our children’s classes, including self defence, theatre improv, clown, visual arts, partner poi, acro balance, contact staff, juggling, hoops and balance. In developing classes we choose to reenact difficult situations, playing the naughty kids, the quiet ones, the confused ones, and the attention grabbing ones.
We are now working with the Hope Foundation in Kolkata, who are battling human trafficking and the child sex trade. Fortunately, as an ensemble we will be working everyday here from January 19th thru February 17th to strengthen poor education systems through offering relevant classes. What is the value of art and performance for at-risk youth? We are offering tools for young children who have faced sexism, trafficking, and discrimination to learn skills for self respect and explore their potential , enabling them to gain confidence, stand up for themselves, solve problems and communicate, focus and express.
Tune in for more entries.
Love,
PWB India 2015
